🐇 March: “Lilith’s Spring Fever Forecast”

Narrated by Lilith the Rex Rabbit
Center cage. Velvet coat. Wisconsin-born. Knows everyone’s business.

It started with a thump.
Not a danger thump.
A “look at me, ladies” thump.

Thistle was showing off again—hop-spin, thump, pose.
Juniper joined in with a dramatic stretch and a hay toss.
Both of them are young, unbred, and full of opinions.
I watched from my center cage, unimpressed.

Coven, in the corner, rolled her eyes.
Moon muttered something about “spring being early.”
Zipporah just kept grooming like she hadn’t raised 13 kits last year and seen it all.

I nibbled my hay cube and took notes.

Thistle thumped again.
Juniper rattled his feeder.
Bael tried to flirt with Mysteria through the wire.
Seraphina ignored everyone and rearranged her bedding like a queen.

Then the humans arrived.

The girl child came in first, arms full of water bowls.
She slipped on a patch of hay, caught herself, and groaned,
“Why do I always have to do the rabbit chores?”
I twitched my nose in agreement.
She’s young, but she’s got a point.

Then came the adult.
She was muttering about spring pairings and “not repeating last year’s nonsense.”
Which, from what I overheard, mostly involved does refusing to breed.
I twitched my whiskers.
Good luck with that.

She checked my water, gave me a treat, and moved on.
I watched her glance at Malachi.
He posed.
She sighed.

By evening, the boys had settled down.
The moms were quietly judging.
And I?
I was still in the center cage.
Still watching.
Still velvet.
Still not invited to the grown-up table.

🐾 Velvet Footnote:

Spring is coming.
So is the drama.
I’ll keep you posted.

📸 Meet the Narrator: Lilith the Rex Rabbit

Lilith is a plush-coated Rex rabbit who joined our farm in mid-summer of 2025, all the way from Wisconsin. At 11 months old, she’s not yet bred, but she’s already earned her place in the center of the rabbitry—both literally and socially. From her prime location, Lilith observes everything: hay politics, water bowl etiquette, and the ever-evolving romantic entanglements of her neighbors.

The photo featured here shows Lilith in her element—plush, and perfectly unimpressed by the chaos around her.
