If you give a homesteader a box full of chicks, she’ll be overjoyed and want to get them settled in right away.
She’ll check the temperature of the brooder and realize it’s too cold. So she’ll adjust the heat lamp.
Adjusting the heat lamp will remind her she’s out of chick feed. She’ll run to the feed store to get more feed, and while she’s there, she’ll see more baby chicks.
Chicken math wins again and she comes home with 25 new chicks and the feed.
Realizing the brooder is now too small for all the chicks, she’ll decide to set up a second one.
Setting up the second brooder will make her realize she needs more space. She’ll ask her husband to build a new chick run.
While he’s building the run, she’ll see an ad for piglets online and think about how great it would be to raise pigs.
Ordering piglets will remind her that the garden needs to be expanded to grow more food. She’ll start planning the garden expansion, but then she’ll see the goats munching on her current seedlings.
She’ll run to round up the goats and then decide the garden fence needs to be reinforced.
Reinforcing the fence will remind her that she needs more flowers to help the bees, so she’ll plant more flowers.
When she goes to water the flowers, she’ll find a hen sitting on a clutch of eggs.
And chances are, if you give a homesteader a brooder full of chicks, she’ll end up wanting piglets, more chicks, and even more projects to keep the homestead growing.
