Farm Table Talk: You Know What HASN’T Been Recalled? Our Food.

Let’s talk about food recalls for a minute. Seems like every week there’s a new list of things you should definitely not eat unless you enjoy food poisoning as a side dish. Just this month, we’ve seen recalls for everything from bagged salads to frozen vegetables to, shocker, yet another batch of ground beef. Contamination, listeria, E. coli—you name it, it’s out there lurking on grocery store shelves.

But you know what hasn’t been recalled? Our food.

That’s right. The eggs, meat, and produce that come straight off our farm to your table haven’t needed an FDA announcement to tell you they’re safe. Why? Because we know exactly where it comes from, how it’s grown, and who’s handling it. Spoiler alert: it’s us.

We’re not spraying salads with chemicals you can’t pronounce. We’re not packing meat in facilities where thousands of animals are processed daily, creating the perfect storm for contamination. And we’re sure as hell not cutting corners to meet the demands of a system that values quantity over quality.

Now, before anyone rolls their eyes and says, “But recalls don’t happen that often,” let’s get real. In 2023 alone, there were over 300 food recalls in the U.S. That’s almost one per day. And let’s not even start on the recalls that should’ve happened but didn’t until people started getting sick.

Here on the farm, we take food safety seriously. Not because we’re required to follow some massive corporate rulebook, but because we’re feeding our family the same food we’re feeding yours. The eggs we sell you are laid by chickens we care for every day. The veggies are grown in soil we’ve nurtured and composted by hand. And our meat? It doesn’t get any more local than this.

I’m not saying farm-to-table is foolproof. Nature can throw curveballs, and humans make mistakes. But when you buy direct from a small farm, you’re cutting out the chaos of an industrial system designed to prioritize profits over people.

So, as you’re making your grocery list for the week, think about this: Do you want to put your trust in a system that’s constantly apologizing for its mistakes? Or would you rather trust the hands that grow, raise, and prepare your food with care and intention?

Food shouldn’t be a gamble. It shouldn’t come with fine print or a risk of a late-night trip to the ER. It should nourish you, bring you joy, and connect you to the land and the people who tend it.

Our food hasn’t been recalled because we’re not just farmers—we’re stewards of the Earth, caregivers of animals, and believers in a better way.

Until next time,
Traci
