In today’s fast-paced world, the distance between the farm and the dining table has grown significantly. Many people, especially younger generations, have never had the opportunity to experience a farm up close, leading to a disconnection from their food sources. Recognizing this, we have made it a priority to bridge this gap. Our farm doesn’t just produce food; we are a hub of education, engagement, and community-building. Let’s delve into the exciting events, tours, and workshops we offer and how they are reshaping the relationship between the farm, the food, and the community.
1. Guided Farm Tours
Discover the Farm Life:
- Our guided tours offer an immersive experience into the daily workings of our farm. From caring for our animals to exploring our garden plots, visitors gain a comprehensive understanding of our commitment to sustainable farming practices. This year, we’re excited to showcase our two distinct gardens: one dedicated to vining plants such as cucumbers, watermelons, and pumpkins, and the other featuring a diverse array of crops. Despite our compact half-acre space, our tours provide intimate glimpses into our chicken coop, fruit trees, rabbit habitats, and ongoing projects like our native butterfly gardens. Depending on the size of the group and their curiosity, tours may vary in duration, ensuring a personalized and informative experience for all.
Kids on the Farm:
- Designed with our younger visitors in mind, this tour offers an exciting array of hands-on activities that foster a deeper connection to sustainable agriculture. Children will delight in feeding our animals, gathering eggs, and actively learning about the principles of eco-friendly farming. As part of the experience, they’ll have the opportunity to plant seeds in compostable pots, discovering firsthand the benefits of using rabbit manure as fertilizer. Getting their hands dirty, they’ll nurture their plants and take home a piece of our farm to cultivate. Additionally, we’re planning creative crafting sessions using ethically sourced feathers from our chickens and ducks and natural materials found around the property. These crafts will inspire imagination and highlight the interconnectedness of our farm ecosystem, providing a memorable and educational experience for our young guests.
