Huckleberry Farms Mission Statement

Eat Local. Live Wholesome. Cherish Traditions.

To develop environmentally, economically, and nutritionally enhancing agricultural products for our local community.

Good farming doesn’t automatically guarantee a good food system, especially if the processing falls short. While we once processed all our meats on-site at Huckleberry Farms, maintaining our commitment to quality, we’ve recently made adjustments. Currently, our rabbits are processed on-site, adhering to our rigorous standards. However, in compliance with state regulations, our chickens now undergo processing at a trusted off-farm facility. This ensures that, whether it’s our rabbits or chickens, the commitment to delivering high-quality, additive-free products directly from our farm remains unwavering.

When raising our meat animals, we provide them with multiple hours per day (usually 8+) to forage through our acre homestead. This allows the animals to have a natural, varied diet. The chickens and ducks are able to eat bugs and grasses, bringing more natural nutrients to their meat and eggs. The rabbits are able to forage for grasses and plants that provide natural nutrients to their systems and allow them to breed stronger and more nutritious future generations.

Enabling our animals to roam freely has been a cornerstone at Huckleberry Farms. While our birds currently free-range, we’re gearing up for an exciting change! Come spring, we’ll be transitioning them to movable fencing for pastured rotational grazing. This ensures not only the health and safety of our birds but also contributes to the ecological well-being of our land.

As for our rabbits, their enclosures are moved daily, offering fresh ground for foraging during the Spring through Fall months. This not only allows them to graze naturally but also ensures their safety. Rabbits, chickens, and ducks play their part in aerating and fertilizing the soil, cultivating better-quality grounds for our animals to forage, thriving on increased nutrients, and promoting overall land healing.

Huckleberry Farms is your best source of meat and eggs not because it’s nutrient-dense or because it tastes good although both of those are also true. The reason why Huckleberry Farms deserves your patronage is that it heals the land and it helps to heal your body.

Healing land is what we do. Your patronage touches land through our hands. It’s that simple. More wildlife. More earthworms. Cleaner water. More soil. Higher fertility and more dense vegetation. We do not say these things pridefully; far from it. If they didn’t work, we would doubt nature’s design. But the fact that they do work, and work abundantly and aesthetically, proves the authenticity of the living systems’ design.

Research has shown time and again that food processing reduces the nutritional value of the food. All types of food processing involve the application of heat at some point in the procedure, even freezing requires blanching either by boiling or irradiating with microwaves. When you add in preservatives, antibiotics, and fillers, you are reducing the nutrient levels even more. When your body does not receive the levels of nutrients that you need, your immune system is weakened, your brain function is reduced, your body condition decreases, and your overall health is negatively impacted.

That is why at Huckleberry Farms, we work very hard to ensure that those extra nutrients that the animals are intaking pass along to you and your family when you consume them.

Ensuring the freshness and quality of our eggs is a top priority at Huckleberry Farms. While on-farm, our eggs follow the traditional process, meeting us at an event may involve a slight deviation. If purchased directly from the farm, our eggs are at most 7 days old and are not washed until they are claimed. This preserves the natural protective “bloom” on the eggs, acting as a barrier against air and bacteria to maintain optimal nutrient levels within the shell. Please note that for events, eggs may be washed and refrigerated in adherence to state regulations.

Our commitment to providing top-quality meats remains a priority at Huckleberry Farms. Our animals, raised without antibiotics, steroids, or any additives, contribute to the exceptional quality of our products. While our previous practice involved processing animals no more than 14 days before customer possession, we’ve made adjustments to better align with state regulations and industry standards. As a result, processed meats, stored in air-tight bags, are now available for pick-up based on your preference, ensuring that you still receive the same high standards of freshness and quality.

Where is our credibility? It is in the seeing, the eating, the smelling, and the touching. The earthworms don’t lie. The bumblebees don’t lie. In the cacophony of marketplace noise, then, why should anyone patronize Huckleberry Farms rather than Wal-Mart organics or anyone else?

The answer is simple: We heal the land and we perpetuate nutritional foods for the community. Visitors always comment on the happy animals and the beautiful vegetation. Customers praise the meat quality and taste. This is why we do what we do.
